Malawi Exchange Takes Flight
The two-week October 2017 visit of Malawi team members Dr. Sam Kabota, Nurse Ellen Chizimba and Chaplain Leviticus Kefa got off to a flaming start – literally. A mid-air engine fire forced the plane into a dramatic, unscheduled landing en route, making a grueling 36+hour flight even longer.
The trip marked the first time Ellen had left her country, and Leviticus had flown on an airplane. All three traveled a long way not only in miles but also cultural and professional learning experiences.
Sharon recounted, “Thanks to our generous GP donors, including the Gumpert Foundation and many HNC employees who make ongoing contributions, we were able to rent a small condo for our visitors. HNC’s doctor and nurses, along with community members, welcomed our guests with excitement and opened their hearts and homes to make our guests feel welcome.
Along the way, bonds were strengthened, lessons were learned, lasting friendships were forged, and the world became a kinder and better place to live one’s life fully until the end.
