Compact in size yet large of heart, Hospice of the North Coast provides an array of programs and services to the terminally ill, their families and the community.
When you choose Hospice of the North Coast as your hospice provider, you can be assured of having an entire team dedicated to meeting your needs. A small staff-to-patient ratio ensures warm, individualized care twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
We take pride in combining sophisticated clinical responses, pain management modalities and integrated therapies with traditional hospice care and caring that supports body, mind and spirit.

Our History
Hospice of the North Coast was established in 1980 to fill the need for comprehensive, compassionate hospice care in North County San Diego. The agency was reorganized as an independent agency, licensed by the State of California and certified by Medicare in 1989. Since then, Hospice of the North Coast has provided hospice services, counseling services, support and education to thousands of children, teens, adults and elderly within the North County Community. Hospice of the North Coast is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency, with administrative offices in the City of Carlsbad. In 2013, Hospice of the North Coast opened its doors to Pacifica House, the first-ever North County inpatient hospice house.
Our Values
Hospice philosophy respects the rights of patient and family. It offers the right to experience the highest quality of life possible:
- The right to die with dignity, as dignity is perceived by the patient.
- The right to remain a viable family member in the environment of choice
- The right to actively participate in managing the remaining life span, the dying process and the event of death
- The right to have his/her needs considered on a personal, individual basis
Hospice strives to achieve excellence in all its care objectives:
- Good physical care and relief of pain and other symptoms during illness without great mental or physical incapacitation.
- Ongoing emotional support of patient and family caregivers throughout illness.
- Support of the patient’s participation as an active family member by enabling them to remain at home and by offering services to accommodate family relationships.
- Assistance for patients and families during the grieving process as well as addressing changes in lifestyle associated with a loss.
- Assistance with the family’s healthy resolution of bereavement issues up to a year or more after the death of the patient, as needed.
- Initiation and maintenance of an ongoing community hospice education program to keep hospice available to the families, friends and neighbors of our community.
