Global Partnership - Hospice

Global Partnership

Ten thousand miles separate Carlsbad, California , home of Hospice of the North Coast and Nkhoma Hospital in Malawi, Africa in addition to striking differences in climate, culture, politics, economic conditions, and most importantly - health and life expectancy.

In spite of those differences, HNC and Nkhoma are connected, heart to heart. Malawi is known as “The Warm Heart of Africa.” HNC’s logo contains a heart at its core to signify the agencies dedication of combining sophisticated pain management modalities with time-honored, caring hospice services provided to those in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

In January 2016, bound by this common humanity, HNC took a significant first step to bridge the many miles and huge gap in healthcare. We put the precept of “Think Globally, Act Locally” into energetic action by creating a Global Partnership via the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization with Nkhoma Hospital to respond to the desperate need for professional hospice and palliative services in this impoverished, disease-stricken region.

Nkhoma Hospital has been a mission hospital since 1915. Since HNC’s inception in 1980, our mission has been to provide compassionate, personalized care that addresses the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and families during the end-of-life transition.

The Global Partnership between HNC and Nkhoma Hospital is an extraordinary story that has just begun. Stay tuned for updates on this “Mission Possible.”
