Saluting Heroes: Honoring Vietnam Veterans at the Sixth Annual Welcome Home Celebration

On March 29, 2024, Hospice of the North Coast, in collaboration with the Veterans Association of North County (VANC) in Oceanside, CA, proudly hosted the sixth annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration.

This event was a poignant tribute to the valor and dedication of Vietnam Veterans and their families, acknowledging their profound service and sacrifices. Year after year, we come together to express our heartfelt gratitude to these extraordinary heroes, extending our thanks on behalf of a grateful nation.

Roger Jordheim (Emcee)
1 LT US Army, Vietnam Veteran (Keynote Speaker)

Roger Jordheim grew up on a family farm in rural North Dakota. After high school, Roger attended North Dakota State University, enrolled in ROTC and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant the same day he graduated from college. He reported for active duty in the US Army in July of 1969. Roger served nine months as a Platoon Leader with the 11th Armored Calvary at Ft Carson, CO. He was then assigned for two months training at the Army’s Military Intelligence HQ at Ft Holabird, MD. Following MI school, Roger was sent to Vietnam where he served as a Phoenix Advisor to a Vietnamese Special Operations Unit from July, 1970 - June, 1971.

During Roger’s 12 month tour of duty in Vietnam he was stationed with a ten man US Military Advisory Team in the village of Duc Pho, which was located in I Corps. Roger was awarded 10 medals during the year he spent in Vietnam, including the Bronze Star for Valor, 2 Cross Of Gallantry Medals with Bronze Stars, 2 Air Medals, the Army Commendation Medal and a Combat Infantryman Badge. Roger is also a proud member of the US Military Special Operations Association.

Upon returning from Vietnam, Roger entered the healthcare industry where he enjoyed a 30 year career focused on medical devices. He has held senior management and executive level positions in sales, marketing and operations with Baxter Healthcare and Maxxim Medical. He then completed his professional career as President and Chief Operating Officer at Venetec International. Mr. Jordheim’s base of experience includes leadership of national sales organizations, multi-national manufacturing and operations, joint ventures/strategic alliances and technology licensing agreements.

Roger has been married to his high school sweetheart Cheryl for 54 years, and is blessed with three children…Josh, Jenna and Zachary. Along with two daughters-in-law…Kristen and Sara and the Jordheim family’s bundle of joy…his granddaughter Parker.
