HNC has joyful Open House with more than 250 in attendance

HOSPICE OF THE NORTH COAST CELEBRATES JOYFUL RIBBON CUTTING AND OPEN HOUSE

Carlsbad, CA … Amid a rainy week, the skies cleared on March 24, 2011 just in time for Hospice of the North Coast’s (HNC’s) joyful Ribbon Cutting and Open House. After a 4 pm ribbon cutting ceremony led by HNC officials and the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, HNC’s Board, staff and auxiliary members welcomed more than 250 people to enjoy tours of the facility’s new permanent Carlsbad home at 2525 Pio Pico Drive. Guests, including members of the Carlsbad City Council and other dignitaries, were treated to music, refreshments, information-packed gift bags and some of the many integrative therapies that daily help HNC clients achieve maximum quality of life.

Attendees familiar with HNC’s former 5,000-square-foot location at 5441 Avenida Encinas said they were impressed by the organization’s wholly-owned, three-story, 9,000-square-foot facility, to which it moved in late 2010. Board Chair Bobbie Hoder told the crowd, “Now we have room to grow; to expand our programs, our services and our value to clients and the entire community.”

According to HNC Executive Director Nerice Kaufman, the event was designed to be an inspiring, life-affirming celebration. She states, “To me and to my staff, our Board and all volunteers, hospice is not merely a profession, but a calling. As one of only three, free-standing nonprofit hospices in San Diego County, we daily strive to be an asset to our North County community. This celebration is a great way to begin our next 30 years of service. We truly have a passion for compassionate care.”

Nonprofit Hospice of the North Coast was established in 1980 to fill the need for comprehensive, compassionate hospice care in North County San Diego. Since its inception, it has grown in services, staff and clients; it currently provides a full spectrum of programs to terminally ill clients and their families, including bereavement support. To fulfill its mission of maintaining dignity, comfort and highest quality of life for those it serves, regardless of ability to pay, HNC hosts fundraising events, operates a family support camp and resale shop, and maintains a cadre of volunteers.
