Hospice of the North Coast (HNC) has appointed Shelly Dew to the newly created position of Director of Fund Development. Her initial responsibilities center on creating a formalized, structured program to build ongoing and long-term support for HNC. She notes, “As a nonprofit hospice that offers a full range of comprehensive, holistic, professionally delivered programs and services to clients and their families, regardless of financial or life circumstances, we rely heavily upon the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations.”
Dew holds certificates in fundraising management and nonprofit management. She has spent nine years specializing in fund development for hospices and offers a commitment that results from personal experience. Dew relates, “I have witnessed the unfortunate situation of loved ones dying without the support of hospice. Death is always a challenging experience, but HNC’s programs, staff and volunteers help so much, from enriching the clients’ remaining moments of life to providing incredible bereavement support.”
Dew says that working in fund development for HNC “is extremely rewarding. I am continually moved by people’s generosity and kindness. It is an honor to be able to connect people to causes they believe in, and help them meet their philanthropic goals.”
HNC Executive Director Nerice Kaufman states, “We feel fortunate to have Shelly on our team. Fund development is vitally important to the continuation and expansion of our services. Having a fund development program in place will help ensure that hospice care is available to everyone in need, today and in the future.”
Dew lives in Escondido with her husband, three children and their Labrador. An avid outdoor enthusiast, she swims, snow skis, water skis, plays softball and has hiked Mt. Whitney twice.
Nonprofit Hospice of the North Coast was established in 1980 to fill the need for comprehensive, compassionate hospice care in North County San Diego. Since its inception, it has grown in services, staff and clients; it currently provides a full spectrum of programs to terminally ill clients and their families, including bereavement support. To fulfill its mission of maintaining dignity, comfort and highest quality of life for those it serves, regardless of ability to pay, HNC hosts fundraising events, operates a family support camp and resale shop, and maintains a cadre of volunteers.
