June 24, 2013Each of us travels along a unique life path. If we are fortunate, we share the journey with family and friends. Nevertheless, it is our path alone to forge, experience and take pleasure in, step by step.
As life rounds to a close, we each have our own notion of how to find meaning in the years we have spent – and hopefully enjoyed to the fullest – on Earth. We also want to find meaning and beauty in the days that remain.
Peaceful dying is a concept that Hospice of the North Coast staff and volunteers help clients explore. The process is as individual as the person; it reflects and celebrates their life.
Some people may be intent upon completing a project, from writing their life story to planting a garden. Others may wish to eat their favorite food, revisit a special place, create a special message or simply reminisce.
What is Significant to You?
Finding meaning is a valuable and mindful activity to pursue throughout our lives; not just near the end, but at key junctures and yes, even every day. We tend to get so caught up in living our lives that often we don’t take the time to contemplate our lives.
What is important to you on this day; at this very moment? Is it carving out a few moments to center yourself? Basking in the spring sunshine? Catching up with someone important to you? Delighting in the first new rose of the season?
Whatever it is, find your moment and drink it in. That’s what a meaningful life is all about.
