Love, Dad
September 7, 2013The Circle of Life
September 7, 2013The names of the delectable dishes include the wacky (Broccoli Rockets) and the racy (Sex in a Pan), so it may be hard to believe that a genteel British matron compiled this collection of recipes submitted by members and friends of HNC’s volunteer Auxiliary.
Kate Kaske, who along with her husband Butch has been an Auxiliary member since 2007, created the cookbook as a fundraiser. Featuring foods from A (Almond Orange Salad) to Z (Baked Zucchini) and brimming with tips and terms, the cookbook is sold for a modest $10. Proceeds support HNC’s ongoing efforts to help clients and their families navigate the mosaic of end-of-life care.
Within months of its initial publication, the popular cookbook was sold-out and on its way to a second printing. Kate is deliciously delighted. She says, “HNC is such a worthwhile nonprofit. Everyone genuinely cares about their clients. It’s a joy to work on their behalf.”
Some recipes are complex. Others, such as Simple Syrup, take only a few minutes to prepare. Their flavors endure … just as HNC’s compassionate care extends beyond death through bereavement.
All of the dishes are, as Kate’s cookbook title proclaims, ”Homemade with Love.”
