Carlsbad, CA … Hospice of the North Coast (HNC) invites people who are grieving the loss of a loved one to celebrate their memory at a heartfelt and inspiring “Light Up A Life” memorial. The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place on December 4, 2011 from 2-4 pm at the Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA), located at 704 Pier View Way in downtown Oceanside.
Pre-registration is recommended. Guests can RSVP and obtain information on various memorial and sponsorship opportunities at www.hospicenorthcoast.org or 760-448-4262.
Light Up A Life will feature keynote speaker Sy Brenner, an 89-year-old World War II veteran who survived and transcended his experience as a prisoner of war. Other features include a poignant candle-lighting ceremony, during which each attendee can celebrate the memory of a loved one. Uplifting music will be presented by HNC’s Project Manager Yvette Williams, a noted gospel singer, and by guitarist Dan Libertino. Light refreshments will be served.
HNC Executive Director Nerice Kaufman states, “Art is one of the most healing modalities, so having Light Up A Life at the OMA makes the occasion particularly special. We want people to consider us as an extended family that is always here when needed. We are your community hospice.”
According to Kaufman, the event also serves as a fundraiser. She notes, “The proceeds from this and other HNC events enable us to treat hundreds of terminal patients whose families will never be billed. We ease our dying clients’ transition and help those who love them continue on their life’s path.”
Nonprofit Hospice of the North Coast was established in 1980 to fill the need for comprehensive, compassionate hospice care in North County San Diego. Since its inception, it has grown in services, staff and clients; it currently provides a full spectrum of programs to terminally ill clients and their families, including bereavement support. To fulfill its mission of maintaining dignity, comfort and highest quality of life for those it serves, regardless of ability to pay, HNC hosts fundraising events, operates a family support camp and resale shop, and maintains a cadre of volunteers.
