Did you know? The lungs have delicate tissue that comes directly into contact with external factors, like germs, smoke and other harmful substances. Although your body has a natural defense system designed to keep dirt out and fight off germs, there are some important things you can do to reduce your risk of lung disease.
How to Protect your Lungs:
- The major cause of CODP and Lung Cancer is cigarette smoking.
- Smoking causes chronic inflammation and/or swelling in the lung, which can lead to chronic bronchitis.
- Chronic smoking will destroy lung tissue

Prevent Infection
- Colds and respiratory infections can worsen lung disease related symptoms.
- Wash your hands or utilize alcohol based cleaners
- Avoid crowded areas during cold and flu season
- Speak to you healthcare professional to find out if the pneumonia vaccination is right for you.
- If you become sick, do your best to confine your illness and protect the people around you by staying home.
Avoid Exposure to Pollutants
- Secondhand smoke, outdoor air pollution, chemicals in the home and workplace, and radon can cause lung disease.
