HNC’s Remodeled Pacifica House for the Terminally Ill is Blessed to Serve
October 18, 2017PATIENT CARE IS THE FOCUS
November 2, 2017The beauty and significance of hospice services means focused attention on the patient’s care. Hospice staff take into consideration not only the patient’s needs but they strive to include the patient’s family, as well. The goal of hospice is to provide the care that will let the patient and the family focus on the quality of each day. Focus each day the patient has left on making the most of the remaining time.
Smaller Service Area Means More Personalized Care
Hospice of the North Coast has a small patient-to-staff ratio to optimize the level of care provided. Focusing on patients in North County San Diego allows the hospice team to individualize services, seven days a week, 24 hours per day. Response time to patients in our centralized area is one hour at most for current patients and two hours for new patients, with many response times lower than that. It also means we can activate our team and act quickly in the case of emergencies.
Family Support
While hospice care is available 24/7, the primary family caregiver remains critically important with a significant role to play. Family caregivers are often, quite understandably, under a great deal of stress. The role of a hospice team is not only to relieve some of that stress by helping them provide support to the patient, but also educating them on the best ways to care for the patient. Patients, too, often worry about their loved ones in the caregiver role. Hospice staff takes the whole family into consideration during this difficult time.
Bereavement
Hospice care is not finished with the passing of a loved one. It can remain a vital support center with programs and therapies for grief counseling. Through individualized and/or group therapies, help through the grieving process is offered by a trained Bereavement Counselor using Expressive Arts Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Solution-Focused Therapy, just to name a few programs available at our Hope Bereavement Center. There is also the “Remember Me Bear” program, which uses material from your loved one’s favorite clothing to fashion a teddy bear to hold dear.
When the difficult time comes for a loved one who has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, Hospice of the North Coast is ready to step in and provide assistance. Medications and needed medical equipment can be delivered right to your door.
