Another Successful Celebration of Life Hosted by Hospice of the North Coast
On Sunday May 20, Hospice of the North Coast hosted their 8th annual Butterfly Release, an event created to honor the memory of lost loved ones.
Although the skies were a bit grey for a southern California afternoon, the weather did not deter guests from attending. Nearly 300 hundred people from the local community gathered at The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch to celebrate the lives of those lost by releasing Painted Lady butterflies.
Jim Reiser heads HNC’s Hope Bereavement Center. “This is the eighth year we have done the Butterfly Release. Each year, Hospice of the North Coast looks forward to bringing together families of former hospice patients as well as community members who join us in remembering loved ones in this very special way,” he said.
Jim along with Sharon Lutz, Executive Director, kicked off the event with a warm welcome and a big thank you to sponsors – William Gumpert Foundation, Brubaker & Associates and Eternal Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary and Creamatory as well as event venue sponsor, The Flower Fields. An inspirational message of hope was delivered by Barbara Reuer, Founder and CEO at MusicWorx, a music therapy and wellness agency. Guests enjoyed light refreshments, art therapy, and music from The Mike Cea Trio.
Launa Cornell, Executive Director at The Meridian at Lake San Marcos, an award-winning senior living home, attended with her two daughters. After the event, she sent us this note:
“Thank you for inviting me to your Butterfly Release. It was such an amazing event and such a wonderful way to honor loved ones who have passed. The music was lovely and so perfect for the day. I brought my two teenage daughters who really loved releasing a butterfly in memory of their great, great aunt Marge who passed last month while under hospice care.”
Later this year, HNC will host another memorial event at The Flower Fields – Light Up a Life, a candle lighting ceremony open to the public. It will be held on Thursday, December 6th.
