When Is Extra Care the Right Choice?
December 18, 2017National Influenza Vaccination Week 12/3-9
December 29, 2017When a loved one is seriously ill, time is of the essence, and just the opportunity to spend time with that individual day after day is a gift that won’t be forgotten in the near future. The two of you will treasure the connection, but as the holidays approach, you may feel like you want to offer another gift that will help convey your love. Not sure where to begin? Consider one of these options.
- A Project the Two of You Can Complete Together: Whether you record your loved one’s story or create a family tree through a site like ancestry.com, building something that will last well into the next generation may be a great idea.
- Photo Blanket: Photos are a great way to remind your loved one that you’re always with them, and a photo blanket is a great way to wrap them in love when you can’t be there. Available through a variety of different photo gift websites and even at superstores like Walmart, photo blankets are easy to customize, and they take very little time to produce.
- Music: One of the best ways to soothe a troubled mind is with relaxing sounds, and music can do that for many people. Whether it’s a CD, a personal digital music player like an MP3 player, or even a quiet sound machine that provides the noise of the waves or something similar, a bit of background noise can mean everything for someone in hospice care.
- Water Bottle Cover: Hot water bottles are sometimes used to help comfort hospice patients, but they’re not always very attractive or cozy on their own. Consider making a cover to help make it feel a bit more homey. If creating one isn’t quite what you had in mind, consider purchasing one from a site like Etsy or eBay where people often sell their handmade goods online.
As you search for the right gift, think comfort as much as possible. Do what you can to come up with gift ideas that will be soothing and ideal for a hospice patient.
