The club invites other nonprofits to participate each year to reap the benefits of the proceeds raised. This year, a total of 80 people participated including bowlers and supporters. The Oceanside Civitans netted $1,710.
Besides them, other nonprofits bowling for dollars were Temecula Civitans, Las Amigos Civitan and Special Friends, North County Civitans, San Luis Rey Rotary, Hospice of the North County, Vista Community Clinic, Brother Benno’s, Arthur Hemmingway Foundation and Crystal Catering.
Civitan International is an organization of volunteer service clubs around the world, dedicated to helping people in their own communities. Civitan has a focus on helping those with developmental disabilities, and funding research into illnesses of the human brain at the Civitan International Research Center. But local clubs work to help people within their respective communities.
Some of the groups the Oceanside Civitans support are the Women’s Resource Center, Ivey Ranch, Brother Benno’s, the Family Resource Center and the Training, Education and Research Institute, better known as TERI.
Those throwing strikes for their organizations included President Barbara McKenzie, Vice President Anne Speraw, Nancy Garside, Dusty Rhoad, Milady Murray, Elene and Bill Cahill, June and George Chapman. Christine Gatton, Jan Hire, Yvette Williams, Mary Lou Elliott, Shelly Dew, Gail Osgood, Stacy Maxa, Maria Daily, Marge Bongiovanni, Alberta Kelsey, Roseann Kiss, Charlie and Kathie Chan, Maureen Hartin, Michelle D’Elia, Betsy Heightman, George Gaspar, Michelle Monroe, Fernando Sanudo, Ellen Noble, Sylvia Brown, Jack Brown, Louis Marre, Tina Lawson, Alicia Massey, Megan Swiecicki, Delynn Rippy, Sean Smith, Bill Scanlon, Darryl Harris and Peter Watson.
