Carlsbad, CA … Hospice of the North Coast (HNC) will hold an uplifting Butterfly Release Memorial on May 15, 2011 at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Discovery Center located at 1580 Cannon Road in Carlsbad. The event begins with a walking meditation at 2:30 pm, followed by a butterfly release ceremony and reception from 3:00-4:00 pm.
The afternoon of healing is free to participants and is intended to provide a nurturing, renewing experience for people grieving the loss of a loved one. People wishing to participate should register prior to the event at www.hospicenorthcoast.org or 760.448.4262. They should plan to arrive 15 minutes early for check-in.
According to HNC’s Hope Bereavement Center Director Melanie Barker, the memorial celebration will be the first of many annual butterfly release memorials to come. She says, “We thank the Foundation for providing this scenic and tranquil natural backdrop for an afternoon of inspiration and reflection. At the end of the ceremony, each participant will honor their loved one by releasing a butterfly as a symbol of love, transformation and hope.”
Although the event is free, donations are greatly welcomed, both at the memorial and online at any time. Barker notes, “From anticipatory grief programs and on-site counseling and support services to therapeutic community outreach activities and events, the Hope Bereavement Center provides an array of programs that help people when they need it most. Anyone can access our services, no matter what their financial or life circumstances.”
Nonprofit Hospice of the North Coast was established in 1980 to fill the need for comprehensive, compassionate hospice care in North County San Diego. Since its inception, it has grown in services, staff and clients; it currently provides a full spectrum of programs to terminally ill clients and their families, including bereavement support. To fulfill its mission of maintaining dignity, comfort and highest quality of life for those it serves, regardless of ability to pay, HNC hosts fundraising events, operates a family support camp and resale shop, and maintains a cadre of volunteers.
